LUNCHEON FULL
Wednesday: July 24, 2013: The State Level Perspective: A Q&A Conversation with Commissioner Robert Hammond

Thursday: July 25, 2013: Women in Administration Luncheon: "Becoming Unstoppable: Why Women Should Take Risks" presented by The Honorable Jean Dubofsky

Drew Gilpin Faust, the president of Harvard University, recommends that all incoming freshmen read Kathryn Schulz's Being Wrong: Adventures in the Margin of Error, which describes error as the foundation of wisdom. Dubofsky echoes Faust's recommendation, understanding that doubt about the correct answer or course of action can sabotage one's self-confidence. In her presentation, Dubofsky will share how the willingness to embrace risk and even failure is what opens opportunities that otherwise could not be foreseen.

Jean Dubofsky has been an attorney representing litigants in a wide array of cases, primarily in appellate courts. Dubofsky served as a justice on the Colorado Supreme Court from 1979 until 1987, the first woman appointed to the court. She was lead counsel for the plaintiffs in the successful constitutional challenge to Amendment 2 to the Colorado Constitution, the initial recognition by the United States Supreme Court of gay rights.

Breakout Sessions

CASE breakout sessions feature promising practices in K–12 education, school business management, and policy issues. Whatever your role as an education leader, you will find multiple sessions designed with your needs in mind. Breakout session titles and description listings will be posted here after June 1. • CALET: Colorado Association of Leaders in Educational Technology

    • CASSA: Colorado Association of Superintendents and Senior Administrators
    • CASSP: Colorado Association of Secondary School Principals and Assistant Principals
    • DBO: Department of Business Officials

Peer Session: Discuss and Engage with Job-alike Colleagues

We know that one of the best ways to learn is from talking to our colleagues. In fact, CASE Convention attendees often share that among the valuable aspects of our professional development events is the opportunity to network. From 3:30 pm – 4:45 pm on Thursday, July 25, CASE members are invited to participate in facilitated discussions with their job-alike peers. For some of the sessions, CASE department board business will be conducted at the beginning of the session, followed by the dialogue and engagement conversation.
